You Hit "Submit" On Your New / Updated SAM.gov Registration -- Now What?

Updated: Oct 2, 2023

After you hit that submit button in SAM on your new / updated registration, what happens? SAM will send you an email after each step below is completed.

1. If you provided a Taxpayer ID Number (TIN), the IRS must validate the TIN and Taxpayer Name. (Duration: 2+ business days.)

2. Defense Logistics Agency (DLA) must assign or validate your Commercial and Government Entity (CAGE) Code. (Duration: 2+ business days, but may take up to 10 business days or longer in peak periods like end of a quarter or the Government's fiscal year.) (Note: For updated registrations, you complete this when you review your entity again as part of your update.)

🔎 NOTES:

  • If DLA has questions, you will receive an email from an "@dla.mil" address. Respond promptly to keep your registration on track. Untimely response punts your registration back to SAM.gov. It must be resubmitted with the information required by DLA to proceed.

  • Been waiting awhile? If your SAM status is "Pending CAGE Validation", go to the DLA Customer Interaction Center at https://lnkd.in/gxmSYtk7. There you will find their contact info (1-877-352-2255 dlacontactcenter@dla.mil) and can the DLA CAGE processing status for your entity. If the status is anything else, you must work through the Federal Service Desk (fsd.gov) for assistance.

3. Registration becomes "Active".

From the SAM Home Page, after logging in, click on "Check Status" to see where your registration is in the review process.

If you have an active registration, when you submit an update, screens will show two records -- the current active record and the update. Once the update is complete, this will resolve itself and only one active record will show again.

SAM.gov registration and annual maintenance is free. Free help is available from your local APEX Accelerator (formerly Procurement Technical Assistance Centers (PTACs)). To find assistance in your area, go to our Resource Library and find a link to the nationwide list under "Free Support".
